Still Waiting.

March and still no rain, wind yes, rain no.

It’s odd having to get the garden hose out in March to soak things, but we’re all having to adjust and come to terms with our unusual weather patterns these days.

The daffs are now popping up their heads, however, last year they were doing this in January (lack of rainfall?). Rather than plant out all my tulip bulbs in one go, I like to stagger them from October to January, so I’ll still be getting firework bursts of flowers around the garden come May.

The snowdrops have begun to multiply nicely. Planting them in the green i.e. with the green stems still attached means they’ll flower the following year, as opposed to planting bulbs from packets which rarely do, however, they’re more expensive.

Talking of which, people often want to see an overnight transformation of their gardens, wouldn’t we all, well, it’s possible but it comes at a price and obviously, your budget is going to dictate how quickly that can be realised.

Occasionally, a client will tell me to go spend whatever is needed, that’s nice, but more often than not, it’s piecemeal, a few plants here, a few plants there over weeks/months and so it takes a while to bring their ideas to fruition.

Gardening’s very much like painting the Forth Bridge, just when you think you’re finished, are on top of it and all done, it’s time to start on something new again. There’s never a dull moment in the garden, another job is always creeping up behind you, keeping you on your toes, knees and hands.
