Road Trip Pt 1.

Whoosh… and it’s off I go along one of my favourite and now familiar routes, A4-M4-M25-M3 and finally on to the glorious vistas of the A303. It has to be one of the prettiest and most distracting A-roads in England on which to drive, trying to keep one’s eyes on the road ahead can prove difficult at times.

And of course, there’s always that s…l…o…w… bottleneck bit as one approaches Stonehenge, but who cares, what a magnificent site to behold. Being already submerged head to toe in a holiday state of mind, traffic jams aren’t a problem, I’m in no rush to be anywhere, I’ll get there when I arrive, which today is the coastal town of Bude on the North Cornish coast, a 5-hour journey (I arrive at 5pm).

The waves at Bude can get quite choppy, thus its attraction for surfers, however, it does have a calm sea pool, which is replenished twice a day as the tide retreats. The sleepy town centre consists of a loop of 3 short streets of cafes, bars, and a whole bunch of chichi shops selling beige candles, cushions, throws, figurines and those signs that say ‘It’s Gin O’clock,’ which end up in the charity bag 6 months later.

After a chilled two-day stay (with a sea view) it was time to move on down the coast to Rock.
